"Untitled" is a self-portrait using acrylic paint as the medium. The self-portrait is an homage to the famous Vietnamese painting, "Thiếu Nữ Bên Hoa Huệ" by To Ngoc Van along with the influence of Gustav Klimt's distinctive use of geometric pattern. "Untitled" illustrates the theme of being in the middle of both Eastern and Western cultures, and how one still embraces their heritage yet bring Western influences to their culture as well.

To Ngoc Van: thiếu nữ bên hoa huệThe main inspiration behind the self-portrait is "Young Woman by Lillies" by To Ngoc Van. The painting is one of the most iconic paintings in Vietnamese art history, as it marked a new movement of Modern Art in Vietnam. Modern Art in Vietnam was created through the combination of Vietnamese aesthetics and elements of impressionism learnt from the West. The portrait draws my attention in many ways, from the strong saturated hues used to the use of composition of thirds in the painting that creates emphasis on the subject. Most importantly the oriental sensibility attracts the viewer as the subject's figure evokes a very strong sultry mood yet it balances out with the calmness and delicateness from the background.
